Design Guidelines

Huntsville’s rapid growth in the latter half of the 20th Century created a haphazard collection of buildings along our major commercial corridors, where design was based on cost rather than surroundings. Having a set of design guidelines helps create consistency among different developments along corridors. If done properly, as corridors like Memorial Parkway and University Drive are redeveloped, this will eventually create aesthetically-pleasing commercial districts in these areas. Some local examples of design guidelines include Downtown, Providence and (to a lesser extent) Jones Valley.
